Analysis of Rubber Sealing Strip for Automobile Doors

The rubber sealing strip for car doors is made of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber material, which has good elasticity, sound insulation, and noise reduction effects. Due to the fact that the rubber sealing strip is in a compression deformation state during the actual assembly process, when designing the structure, the sealing strip and surrounding environmental components are often in an interference state. The interference amount and deformation state play a decisive role in the sealing performance of automobiles, and design engineers usually design and optimize the structure and interference amount of EPDM rubber strips based on experience. This will greatly reduce the reliability of the design, leading to frequent problems in the later stages and increasing development costs.

The door sealing strip is mainly formed through extrusion and injection molding processes. The cross-section of the extrusion section is consistent and has the same amount of interference as the door sheet metal. The sealing strip at the corner of the car door is mostly formed by injection molding, and the interference amount with the sheet metal is often inconsistent, and the problem of car door rain leakage often occurs at this corner. The sealing strip assembly is fixed through the form of 3M tape and buckle, so the 3M tape and buckle parts can be constrained with 6 degrees of freedom under the condition of displacement when the door is closed.
